Taiwan
2009
The building is located 20km north of the City of Taipei and is called "Memory Museum". The building provides rooms to house the ashes of the deceased. Each of the rooms is 12m big and can be used to accommodate the urn, or allow space togather with the family. The building's footprint is an S-shape which promotes views from all rooms of the surrounding landscape. The design represents the form and outline of mountains and the floorplan the shape of a meandering valley. On the ground floor a large hall with a glass roof is the centerpiece for the main entrance to the lobby with restaurants and cafes. Chapels for memory celebrations are located in the basement and next to the chapels are galleries with spaces to host urns.
The intention is create a place for the living, not for the dead. The typical building in Taiwan are temple-style buildings, however the design for “Memory Museum”is aimed at a luxury hotel standard, offering spaces for families to meet, relax and remember their ancestors.
