Sanatorium

Hotel

Client:

The project entailed the overall concept design of the interior of the Sanatorium complex situated in natural surroundings of the city of Almaty, consisting of 7 buildings of different functions,no more than 4 floors high. 13 spaces within these buildings were designed in more detail: 127 guest rooms including standard rooms and suites, eight VIP suites, seven

restaurants, cafes and night clubs, lobbies, spas and a swimming pool area. The local tradition, history and environment were main influences to the design, combined with qualities and styles of the ever-changing present. The attributes of 'history and the present', 'continuity and variation' create the Sanatorium's design philosphy that features elements of both variation and of permanence. This underlying design principle is noticeable throughout the entire complex. Certain styles, colours and materials reappear, giving the guest a holistic impression that unifies the buildings. At the same time there are different atmospheres and impressions which continuously entertain the guests who stay for a long period of time. The spaces that feature 'continuity' are the guest rooms, suites and lobbies. The materials and styles will be similar, creating spaces with a more modern, warm feeling. The spaces that feature 'variations'will the restaurants, cafes, bars, lounges,VIP areas, spas and pool. The different 'themes' that are used in this design create a range of different impressions, such as "Cool Dining" (cool and modern, steel, glass, glossy woods), "Luxury Modernity" (lush, colourful, modern classic furnitures, glossy colours) or "Modern Kazakh" (colourful  traditional patterns, tentlike forms, rich fabrics).
